Fairfield is a quintessential New England town which traces its roots back to 1639 when Roger Ludlow, a founder of Connecticut, established a settlement here. It offers residents 6 miles of pristine coastline just 50 miles from Manhattan.  Fairfield stretches from the beautiful Long Island Sound over salt marshes and lush lawns to the rolling hills of Greenfield Hill. Southport is arguably the crown jewel of Fairfield with its multi-million dollar homes commanding unobstructed views of the Sound and charming antiques nestled on narrow country lanes.

Fairfield is alive year round with cultural and leisure activities.  The town owns two public golf courses, four tennis courts, and two marinas. In spring, The Dogwood Festival celebrates the height of bloom of the 10,000 trees that line the square in Greenfield Hill.  In summer, residents can park their chairs or blankets by the Sherman Green Gazebo for a concert.  In winter, residents can ice skate at Owen Fish Park, Sturges Pond and Gould Manor Park.   

Fairfield schools are considered some of the best in the state with excellent programs for both gifted children and those with special needs.  Fairfield schools have a commitment to basic curriculum while offering students a variety of special studies in business education, food service, family and consumer sciences, technology, music and art. Fairfield has three public libraries.
